Hansen and Gretel
OUR SUSTAINABLE JOURNEY
Hansen & Gretel is acutely aware of the impact our industry has on our planet and it’s people. We are passionately committed to driving change and believe in conscious creation. We strive to deliver collections that pioneer sustainability and we make a concerted effort to integrate sustainable practices in every aspect of our business — not only in regards to materials and production, but also our day-to-day operational mindset and business structure. We are honest in saying that from the earliest discussions to now, we have been on a very humbling and educational journey to understand our shortcomings as a brand, to initiate immediate change and to set long term goals. The duty to mitigate our environmental impact and initiate positive social change grows in importance every day.
We strongly focus on using natural fibres wherever possible and are proud to be utilising environmentally accredited fabrications such as Tencel, FSC Viscose, Linen, Organic cotton and Recycled Polyester linings within our ranges. We strive to consciously create “forever” pieces for our customers and to design and manufacture within the seven parameters that Green Strategy have devised to define sustainable fashion. We do not hold warehouses of excess stock and endeavour to create minimal waste with every collection by working closely with our factories. We source fabrics with the OKEO-TEX Certification and avoid harmful dyeing methods. We chose to avoid placement prints which create vast amounts of fabric wastage, instead producing garments with repeating prints, making each of our garments a one-of-a-kind Hansen & Gretel piece.
We are passionate about limiting our use of single use plastics in the entire production cycle. We began using biodegradable plastic in 2018 and in 2020 we aim to eliminate the use of plastic all together by implementing canvas garment bags for our stock to be delivered in. Our online orders are packaged using only 100% recycled and biodegradable materials.
